“My painting is first and foremost a way of expressing my feelings and sharing them with the viewer.” – Christian Raffin

Christian Raffin is a French contemporary painter whose work is shown in galleries throughout France and internationally, including Carré d’Artistes locations in Paris, Copenhagen, Brussels, and Montreal. Passionate about drawing since early childhood, he first built a career as an engineer and industrial director across three different industries. At 48, he chose to devote himself fully to his artistic vocation, and he has painted professionally since 2004. Entirely self-taught, Raffin developed his distinctive visual language through years of sustained practice and a deep exploration of color and texture.

Raffin’s paintings capture couples in motion, cyclists, and scenes of urban life, rendered with deliberately blurred silhouettes that suggest rather than describe. His figures seem to move forward through the canvas, carrying their own stories toward an unknown destination. For Raffin, these subjects are not ends in themselves but vehicles for emotion. By leaving certain forms indistinct, he invites viewers to step into the scene and recognize their own memories and personal stories within it.

For a decade, Raffin was a familiar presence at Paris’s Marché de la Création, showing his work weekly at both Bastille and Montparnasse. He has since exhibited at the Salon de Barbizon, Les Greniers à Sel in Honfleur, and La Rotarienne des Arts in Les Sables-d’Olonne. Today, he continues to explore movement and emotion through the fleeting encounters of everyday life.
